Worthy of a visit
was a new exhibition
Passchendaele 1917-2007: The
Belgians have not forgotten previously open at the residence of
the Belgian Ambassador, is now closed.
The exhibition was opened by the Belgian Ambassador in the presence of the
Duke of Kent on the 24th September 2007 and is a tribute to the British
Commonwealth forces for their support to the Belgian people throughout the dark
days of WW1. The exhibition attempts to give an impression of what life must
have been like in Passchendaele in 1917. The exhibits on show were lent by
the Belgian Royal Army Museum, the Passchendaele & Zonnebeke Museum together
with the Imperial War, the Chelsea Army and Bovington Royal Tank museums.
Also on display was the work of two artists; photographer Michael St Maur
Sheil who displays photographs of Passchendaele of today and sculptor Rik Ryan
who uses WW1 scrap metal found on the battlefields to create his poignant pieces
of art.
For those who are unable to make it to the exhibition, here are a few images
of the opening ceremony and exhibits.
