National Day of Commemoration, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin

Every year on the National Day of Commemoration - the Sunday nearest July 11th - the anniversary of the Truce that ended the Anglo-Irish War - The Taoiseach invites guests to attend a service in the presence of the President of Ireland, members of the Government of Ireland, members of Dáil Éireann and of Seanad Éireann, the Council of State, the Defence Forces, the Judiciary and the Diplomatic Corps, lays a wreath in the courtyard in memory of all Irishmen and Irishwomen who have died in past wars and on service with the United Nations.
The service is a multi-faith commemoration that includes representatives from the following; Jewish Community, R.C. Archbishop of Dublin, Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin, Coptic Orthodox Church, Methodist Church and Islamic Cultural Centre.

Music is provided by the Ireland Defence Forces School of Music who accompany a guest choir. The event is televised live on Ireland's national channel.

The ceremony is open to the public.

This National Day of Commemoration event follows the Annual Remembrance Parade of the Royal British Legion (Ireland) that is held in War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge, Dublin. Read more about Islandbridge
